Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

This is one of our favorite breakfasts, especially my husband's.  It seems like it makes a lot but there's never enough to go around.


Recipe:

3 Tbs bacon grease or 1 Tbs oil + 2 Tbs butter
1-2 lb Dana's Sage Sausage
1 Tbs real bacon bits
3/4 C flour
6 C whole milk, brought to a simmer
1/2-1 tsp salt
1/4 C heavy cream
Dana's Baking Powder Biscuits

Brown sausage with bacon grease and bacon bits. Add flour and stir. It will be dry. Meanwhile heat milk to simmer or in microwave. You can add it cold but it takes longer for it to thicken. Stir milk into sausage and heat until thickened, adding salt as desired. Remove from heat and add cream.  Serve with biscuits.
