Dana's Maple Syrup

This is a delicious imitation maple syrup.  I like the depth the molasses in the sucanut gives it.  The corn syrup helps keep sugar crystals from forming.  You can adjust the amount of maple flavoring to your liking.

Recipe:

3 C sugar
1 C sucanut (or 2 C brown sugar and 2 C sugar)
2 C water
1/4 C corn syrup (optional but it will keep it from going to sugar later)
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbs butter (only use if you are going to eat it all up in one day)
OR 1 tsp butter flavoring (optional if you want a buttery flavor)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 Tbs maple flavoring

Bring water to a boil, add everything else and stir until sugar is completely dissolved.  Remove from heat and cool.
