Green Smoothie

Our friend, Emily, got us hooked on green smoothies.  She lived with us for a summer and would make one every morning.  Now that I have my Vita-mix it's so much easier and the smoothies are so much smoother.  You can put whatever you want in the smoothie, just remember the ratio 2-2-3 (liquid-greens-fruit).

Recipe:

2 C water
2 C greens (I use spinach and kale or a greens mix)
3 C fruit (any kind, most of it frozen - Favorites are grapes, pineapples, bananas, blueberries, mangoes)
1 tsp honey
1/16 tsp Stevia (a powerful natural sweetener)
Flax, almonds, wheat grass, etc. (optional)
Protein powder or two raw eggs (optional)

Put the water in first, then the sweeteners, then the greens and the fruit last.  Blend until smooth.  You may need to use a tool to keep it moving at first.  I keep my greens and fruit in the freezer so I have to add a little more water usually to get the smoothie to keep moving.  If you don't have the greens or fruit frozen, use less water and add some ice.  This makes enough for 2 large servings.

Variation:
We got this recipe from my nephew, Dave.  Super healthy!

Green Drink (aka Dave's great green globs of greasy grimy gopher guts)

Celery
Collard greens
Kale greens
Carrots (one pound)
Almonds (few handfuls)
Fruit*
Spinach
Good lettuce
Cilantro

*This could be two oranges and orange juice, two apples and apple juice, a pineapple and pineapple juice, or a mix. The point is that it makes the drink naturally sweet, so use the juice because liquid is necessary.

Variation 2022:
5 ice cubes
90-100 grams just ripe banana
1 small handful frozen grapes
1 small handful frozen pineapple
1 small handful frozen mangos
1 small handful fresh spinach
Coconut milk for consistency
Monk fruit sweetener to taste
