Homemade Hamburger Helper
This recipe is my version of Hamburger Helper. It's really just as fast as buying the box and without all the preservatives. This is so versatile, you can put whatever you want in it and use whatever pasta you want. In the picture below I used V-8 juice instead of water, cheese powder instead of corn starch, Italian seasoning for the spice and used equal amounts of mild cheddar and Romano cheese.
1 lb meat (ground beef, tuna or chicken)
2 1/2 C milk
1 1/2 C water or V-8 juice
6 oz macaroni or noodles, uncooked
2 Tbs cornstarch, flour or cheese powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sucanut or honey
2 minced cloves garlic or 1 tsp powder
2/3 C chopped onion or 1 Tbs powder
1-2 tsp whatever spices you like
2 C shredded cheese, any kind
Cook meat if needed with garlic unless you're using powder. Drain, stir in the cornstarch and spices and then add the liquids and pasta. Bring to boil, turn down to simmer or low, cover and cook for 10-12 minutes or until pasta is to your liking, stirring occasionally. Add cheese, stir to combine and serve.
